Please join us in supporting the construction of a beach volleyball court in Cambridge. We would like to show both the university and the county council that there is a wide-spread demand for such a project in the city.
A beach volleyball court is a great social hub; it is a fantastic spectator sport and is an excellent addition to parks and riversides. Courts have become large attractions for spectators in British towns like Brighton and Croydon, and cities like Berlin and Vienna.
Volleyball, and specifically beach volleyball, is one of the most popular sports in the world. The nearest court to Cambridge, however, is in Kettering, which is very difficult to reach for those without their own independent means of transport. To build a court would cost around £10,000, but the campaign has already secured some support from local businesses to support this cost. What we need more than anything is a place to put the court, which is where you come in.
If lots of us sign this petition, it will show the university and the County Council that there is a demand for a beach volleyball court. The success of similar petitions and projects can be seen in Oxford's successful build last year, where their County Council supported them to build a court. We hope that the university or the council will allow us to use a relatively small amount of space (just 14 x 24m), to realise our project.
