La pétition

It is absolutely heartbreaking to see who we are celebrating on national television. Just days ago, on March 8, 2026, the Crufts dog show crowned Lee Cox as its "Best in Show" winner. What the glamorous cameras didn't highlight is that this man has a criminal conviction for animal cruelty.

Back in 2001, he neglected a spaniel named Adam so severely that the poor dog’s chronically infected ear had to be surgically removed. The Kennel Club, which runs Crufts, has completely brushed off this crime, calling it an "isolated incident." How can an event claiming to celebrate dogs allow a convicted animal abuser to take its top prize?

This scandal exposes a much deeper, darker issue. The entire Crufts show glamorizes the unethical breeding of deformed dogs who suffer their whole lives just to look a certain way for human entertainment. The winning dog, a clumber spaniel, belongs to a breed genetically prone to painful eye conditions, chronic ear infections, and severe joint dysplasia.

Even worse, they had a Cavalier King Charles spaniel competing for the top prize. These poor dogs are bred with skulls too small for their brains, causing an agonizing neurological condition that leads to sudden, severe pain. The suffering is so extreme that Norway entirely banned breeding them back in 2022. Yet, Crufts still parades them around like trophies, and greedy breeders force flat-faced dogs to undergo caesareans just to keep producing more litters.

By broadcasting this event, Channel 4 is blindly supporting and funding a system that normalizes animal abuse and genetic cruelty. Viewers have no idea about the hidden suffering behind these "perfect" pedigree dogs. The BBC had the moral courage to cut ties with Crufts years ago. Now, it is Channel 4's turn to do the right thing.

We demand:

  • Channel 4 must immediately cut ties with Crufts and stop broadcasting this showcase of cruelty.

  • The Kennel Club must implement a strict, lifetime ban on anyone with a history of animal abuse participating in their shows.

  • An end to the promotion and celebration of breathing-impaired and severely deformed breeds on national television.

Please sign this petition to tell television bosses that animal abuse is not entertainment. We cannot let them sweep this under the rug!
