It is hard to find the words to describe the cruelty Jack, a six-year-old Jack Russell, had to endure. For months, this helpless dog was subjected to "severe blunt force trauma" that left him with a fractured leg, head trauma, and abdominal bruising. These weren't accidents. These were "non-accidental injuries" a polite way of saying Jack was systematically beaten.
On March 11, 2026, his owner, Alison Wynne, was sentenced at Norwich Magistrates’ Court. Despite the RSPCA proving that Jack suffered multiple injuries over a long period, Wynne was given a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 24 months.
This means she walks free.
While we welcome the lifelong ban on her keeping animals, the fact remains that a 12-week suspended sentence for breaking a dog's bones is not justice. It is a slap on the wrist that sends a dangerous message: that you can torture a defenseless animal and never see the inside of a prison cell.
We cannot keep using personal circumstances as an excuse to bypass real accountability for physical violence. Jack suffered in silence from February to July. He felt every blow. He lived in fear in the one place he should have been safe.
We demand:
The UK Government and the Ministry of Justice must review sentencing guidelines to ensure that "severe blunt force trauma" against animals results in mandatory immediate custodial sentences, not suspended ones.
Norfolk and Suffolk authorities must ensure the lifelong ban is strictly monitored, with zero room for appeal after 10 years.
A national public register for animal abusers to prevent individuals like Wynne from ever being around animals through "informal" arrangements or loopholes.
A suspended sentence is not a punishment; it is a free pass. We need to tell the courts that Jack’s life mattered and that his suffering deserves real consequences.
Sign this petition to demand tougher sentencing for animal torture. Let’s make sure Jack is the last victim of such a lenient system!
