On Monday evening, a person entered our shelter with the intention of stealing dogs.
About fifteen cages were opened. Three dogs were caught and thrown over the fence in an attempt to get them out of the shelter.
Two of them struggled and bit the individual. It was then that our husky Eclipse, aged 10, was brutally beaten. The third dog, a staffy, was eventually released.
A small female dog was also taken during the incident. We were able to find her 48 hours later.
The person involved, a homeless man of Ukrainian nationality, has admitted to the facts.
Beyond the attempted theft, it is the violence inflicted on vulnerable animals, locked in their shelter, that outrages and deeply concerns us.
We ask that these facts be taken seriously by the justice system and that the perpetrator be tried and punished in accordance with the severity of the charges against him.
We request that a firm sentence be imposed, in accordance with the judicial process and the elements of the case.
We refuse to allow such acts to go unpunished. We fear that in the absence of appropriate sanctions, other animals may fall victim in turn.
Eclipse and the other dogs in the shelter cannot speak. It is therefore up to us to speak for them.
