How long will we continue to support horror and barbarism?
Nîmes has an exceptionally rich heritage. Yet, every year, the image of our city is tarnished by the organisation of bullfights. Pointed out, our city perpetuates the torture and killing of bulls in the very heart of its Arenas.
In the face of this spectacle of suffering, a fundamental question arises: "Should a practice be perpetuated when it involves the killing of an animal for entertainment?"
This is an ethical, legal, and democratic question.
While our law condemns acts of cruelty towards animals, tradition can no longer serve as an excuse to exempt these practices from public debate. Tradition does not make acceptable what offends our collective conscience. A modern society must know how to evolve its customs in light of our current knowledge and sensitivities.
It is time to move from words to actions.
What we are asking the City of Nîmes:
To align the city with the ethics of our time, we officially request the municipality:
1 - The permanent cessation of shows involving killing in the Arenas of Nîmes, a public asset of our community.
2 - The organisation of a local citizen consultation (referendum) to allow the people of Nîmes to democratically express their views on the future of bullfighting.
3 - The reorientation of the programming of the Arenas towards cultural, artistic, and traditional events that respect living beings.

Our goal is clear: the abolition of bullfighting in Nîmes. Let us no longer allow animal suffering to tarnish the radiance and history of our city.
