I am deeply shocked by the massacres and killings of dogs taking place in Tunisia.
I see vulnerable animals suffering and dying without protection. Stray dogs are too often seen as nuisances and they suffer cruel acts. This situation has been ongoing in cities and rural areas for a long time and it breaks the trust of citizens sensitive to animal protection. I feel anger and sadness in the face of these practices. I demand the immediate cessation of killings and violent methods, as well as effective legal protection for all dogs in Tunisia. This demand is simple and urgent: stop the killings and adopt humane alternatives. At the end of this text, I clearly state this urgent request for animal protection in Tunisia.
I propose concrete and applicable measures. The government and local authorities must ban mass killings and implement publicly funded sterilisation plans. Municipalities will create temporary care centres and support associative shelters. Veterinarians will be mobilised for large-scale sterilisation and vaccination campaigns. Capture-sterilisation-release programmes will be launched with population monitoring. Education campaigns will raise awareness among residents about the dangers of violence and responsible actions. Sanctions will be put in place against cruel acts and a national register will track progress.
