For an animal protection law in China, justice for Wang Wang

I am devastated by the fate of Wang Wang, a one-year-old dog beaten and burned alive with her puppies by four minors in China, who shared the video on social media.

This deliberate act for pleasure deeply shocks me and evokes intense anger and sadness. This crime remains unpunished because China does not have a clear national animal protection law.

Animals are tortured without the justice system being able to intervene effectively. I demand that those responsible be prosecuted and that a legal framework finally allows for the punishment of these acts of cruelty.

I call on the relevant authorities to act now.

The government and the National Assembly must adopt an animal protection law that recognizes animals as sentient beings and provides for deterrent penalties. The police and the judicial system must investigate, prosecute, and enforce sanctions, even when the offenders are minors.

Local authorities and shelters must receive resources to care for victimized animals and to fund campaigns to educate empathy towards animals in schools. Prevention programs and alert lines must be created to quickly report cases of abuse.

These measures will be essential to prevent further barbaric acts.
