Imagine a house so contaminated that professionals cannot even breathe the air inside.
What recently started as a routine elder abuse investigation in Central Point, Oregon, quickly spiraled into a massive animal welfare crisis. Authorities uncovered a staggering 80 cats and 3 dogs trapped in an absolute nightmare.
The living conditions inside the Medford-area home were so hazardous that the Oregon Humane rescue team had to suit up in full PPE and respirators, battling 90-degree heat for hours just to safely enter the property. The squalor was unimaginable. Some cats were so terrified and neglected that they hid in unreachable places, requiring humane traps to be rescued the following day.
This isn't just a simple case of someone getting overwhelmed; this is severe, large-scale neglect that put dozens of lives at risk. Thanks to a multi-agency operation, these animals are finally safe and undergoing forensic veterinary exams. However, the fight for their justice is just beginning.
The forensic evidence is currently being handed over to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office. We are calling on the DA to take this massive hoarding and neglect case seriously.
We demand that strict animal cruelty charges be filed and that the responsible party receives a permanent, legally binding ban on owning animals. These 83 victims survived a living hell, and we cannot let them slip through the cracks of the justice system.
Add your name to this petition to demand true accountability and show that our community will not tolerate animal neglect!
