On June 11th, a horrifying discovery was made in Holmes County, Florida, where six horses were found starving to the brink of death.
Three of these innocent animals were suffering from life-threatening emaciation with the lowest possible body score. They were trapped in deplorable conditions, forced to stand in a dirt lot with filthy water and absolutely no access to food or hay.
Their bones were protruding, and they were left lethargic and suffering by the person who was supposed to care for them.
Among the victims is a two-and-a-half-year-old filly lovingly named "Baby Girl," who was found in a terrible physical state. Another rescued horse is a rare Florida Cracker, a heritage breed with fewer than 2,000 left in existence.
It is absolutely heartbreaking to know these majestic creatures were subjected to such severe neglect and starvation. Thankfully, the Alaqua Animal Refuge stepped in to provide the around-the-clock veterinary care they desperately need to survive.
The Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement has officially charged the owner with three counts of animal cruelty. We cannot let this abuser get away with a light sentence or a simple slap on the wrist.
We must stand together and demand that the justice system holds this individual fully accountable for the torture inflicted on these animals. Please sign and share this petition to demand maximum penalties and a lifetime ban on owning any animals for this abuser.
Justice must be served for these six resilient horses!
